This specific walking exercise lifts the feet first and then rolls across to walk. There is no pounding of the feet, knees or hip. This gives gives the hip, knees, and feet a vacation to allow them to heal. Check out the handout on my website or the video.
Walking Effortlessly Instructions
Walking in a straight line restores crucial alignment in the hip, knees, and ankles. This alignment prepares our feet to regain their spring as it strengthens the arches. Always place the foot down on a straight line. Form that line with the outside of the foot, not the inside.
Walking from side to side is a complete separation of weight. The complete separation of weight strengthens our secondary stabalizer muscles which weaken with age. This simple change improves overall balance and poise. As we age we tend to strengthen the primary muscles while walking -- literally pounding the pavement. This movement reverses this aging process and improves our balance. Our joints need tender, loving care. This idea of moving and placing the feet first removes the pounding that our hips, knees, and feet suffer while walking.
This walk literally trains you to move after stepping. The hips, knees, and feet a new lease on life. The active muscle to move our legs becomes the psoas muscle deep in the lower back. The lower back is strengthened at a time when most low backs need relief. Our backs are literally strengthened by walking.
